Dylan Larkin trade heats up as Vegas' viral proposal offers Detroit a massive haul

Dylan Larkin has been the biggest name in Detroit all offseason, and a fresh trade idea from a Vegas fan account is making the rounds ahead of opening night.

The Red Wings captain asked to be moved after the season, and general manager Steve Yzerman confirmed Larkin's camp sent over a list of teams he would waive his no-trade clause for.

Vegas is on it. Friedman has since reported it now includes Colorado, Washington, Dallas and Tampa Bay.

This is the idea that has people talking.

Detroit would get William Karlsson and Nic Dowd, both pending UFAs, plus a Vegas 2028 first and a conditional 2028 first from the Rangers. Vegas would get Larkin.

Karlsson counts $5.9M against the cap and Dowd counts $3M, so the money lands close to Larkin's $8.7M hit, which runs through 2030-31.

That matters because PuckPedia has the Golden Knights about $8.76M over the cap heading into the opener, so matching salary is a real issue.

Almost certainly not. Karlsson and Dowd could both walk next summer, and picks in 2028 won't help a team trying to climb now.

Larkin put up 34 goals and 67 points in 74 games last season, and he's a Michigan kid who wears the C in his home state.

The other side of the coin is that Larkin has only five career playoff games, all back in 2015-16.

Vegas just played in the Stanley Cup Final, which is exactly the kind of window he wants.

Vegas also visits Detroit on Nov. 5, so this story won't go quiet.

Remember, this is a fan proposal, not a report that the teams have talked.

Detroit has said it will only move Larkin if the return makes sense.
