The Bruins and Wild both made offers for Dylan Larkin, and the Red Wings said no. Here's what it means with Detroit's opener only days away.

The Dylan Larkin saga just added two more names to the list of teams that couldn't get a deal done.
The Boston Bruins made an offer for the Detroit Red Wings center, and it was rejected, according to a report from The Fourth Period.
The Minnesota Wild had an offer turned down too.
Here's the post that got everyone talking.
"The Boston Bruins made an offer on Dylan Larkin, which got rejected along with an offer from the Minnesota Wild."

The report didn't say which side turned Boston down, and that detail matters.
Larkin has a modified no-movement clause, so Detroit may not have been the only one with a say.

Detroit wants a proven forward back

The Red Wings have reportedly held firm on the return, and they want an established top-line forward instead of a package built around picks and prospects.
Pierre LeBrun recently said the Minnesota offers never came close to the asking price.
That's a steep ask for any team, because good forwards are hard to give up.
Money doesn't help either. Larkin carries an $8.7 million cap hit through 2030-31.
Boston already has several big contracts on the books, and Minnesota pays Kirill Kaprizov $17 million.

The clock is ticking on Detroit

The Red Wings are also in a new spot at the top.
Steve Yzerman stepped down as GM in July, and Shawn Horcoff is now the interim GM with full authority over hockey operations, trades included.
Detroit opens the season October 2 at home against the Rangers, and the team says it will start the year without a captain.
Minnesota opens October 1 in Nashville.
Vegas and Florida have also been linked to Larkin, so the list of suitors keeps growing, but the asking price hasn't moved.
With the opener days away, the next offer will have to land a lot closer to what Detroit wants.
