Cole Smith is headed to the Vegas Golden Knights for a 2028 third-round pick, and the mid-game pull made it feel brutally final.

This trade is confirmed, and Nashville Predators fans saw the moment coming in real time.
Smith got pulled before the game ended, the classic bench signal that paperwork is done and goodbyes are next.
Vegas doesn't make this move for flash. They make it for nuisance shifts, penalty-kill reps, and hard forechecks that wear teams down.
Smith is 30 and undrafted, a late-blooming pro who carved out NHL minutes by playing direct and staying honest defensively.

Cole Smith gives Vegas Golden Knights a nasty edge

Predators fans are probably split between annoyed and resigned, because watching a guy get pulled mid-game always stings.
On the ice, Smith has 6-4-10 in 41 games this season, and most of his value lives in the shifts that never show up in highlights.
His cap hit sits at $1,000,000, and his deal runs through 2025-26 before he can hit unrestricted free agency.
For Vegas, that's tidy roster math for a bottom-six winger who can take tough starts and keep pucks moving north.
For Nashville, the return is a third round pick.
Now the real tell will be Smith's first Golden Knights lineup spot, and who gets bumped when Vegas tightens the rotation.
