The Flyers acquired David Goyette from the Kraken for Devin Kaplan on Thursday in a swap of 22-year-old forwards with no NHL cap impact.

The Philadelphia Flyers and Seattle Kraken swapped young forwards on Thursday, with Philadelphia getting David Goyette and Seattle getting Devin Kaplan in return.
It's a quiet one on paper. Both players are 22, both sit in the final year of their entry-level deals, and neither one affects the NHL cap picture for either club.

What Philadelphia gets

Goyette went 61st overall to the Kraken in the 2022 draft, and in 2023-24 he led the OHL in scoring with 117 points in 68 games.
The pro game has been tougher.
He put up three goals and 10 points in 51 games with AHL Coachella Valley last season and still hasn't played in the NHL.
He's expected to report to AHL Lehigh Valley.
For Philadelphia, it's a depth move for the Lehigh Valley Phantoms more than anything.
Goyette is a center, which gives the AHL club another option up the middle, and he's still young enough to figure things out.

What Seattle gets

Kaplan is a 6-foot-3 winger the Flyers took in the third round, 69th overall, in 2022.
He played one NHL game back in 2024-25 after finishing up at Boston University, and he had 13 points in 49 AHL games with Lehigh Valley last year.
He's headed to AHL Coachella Valley, where he's expected to play out his contract.
Seattle gets a bigger body to work with.
Kaplan plays a power forward style with bottom-six qualities, and Coachella Valley is a good place to see if that translates.
PuckPedia lists the remaining cap hits at about $883K for Goyette and $937K for Kaplan, and both will be restricted free agents in 2027.
Nothing here changes either NHL roster, but a change of scenery can help a prospect who hasn't found his footing yet, and both teams are betting on that.
