Elias Pettersson traded to Nashville Predators for declining veteran in new blockbuster proposal

This is why both sagas move so slowly despite constant chatter.

A GM can find a trade partner, absorb retention, and still be told no by the one person the story treats as cargo.

MacFarland is reshaping Nashville aggressively, and Johnson is mid-rebuild, yet both are boxed in by decisions their predecessors made when these players had all the leverage.

The honest read is not that these contracts are stuck. It is that the players are exactly where they chose to be.
