Dylan Larkin's trade request from the Detroit Red Wings has stretched past two months with no resolution in sight, and TSN OverDrive host Bryan Hayes says he's convinced there's one destination that fits better than any other: the Montreal Canadiens.

I've said it all along, Larkin to Montreal is what makes sense but Larkin's got to come around to it you know and obviously he hasn't as of now but the idea of having Suzuki & Larkin as your one two in Montreal with all the firepower they have on the wing and all of the prospects they have in the system, that just makes too much sense

Why Montreal Makes Sense

Larkin gave the Red Wings a short list of preferred destinations that included the Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers, Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars. Montreal was not on it.
But Detroit currently has no general manager in place, leaving the entire situation at a standstill, and several of Larkin's preferred teams reportedly lack the assets or cap flexibility to get a deal done.
That opening is what Hayes believes could push Larkin toward reconsidering a move to Montreal, pairing him with Nick Suzuki down the middle on a roster already stocked with wing talent and a deep prospect pipeline.

The Money Question

Larkin carries an $8.7 million cap hit, a number Hayes argued the Canadiens could reasonably justify.
It sits close to Suzuki's $7.875 million and Cole Caufield's $7.85 million, and Larkin would not even be Montreal's highest-paid forward once Noah Dobson's contract is factored in.
Whether Larkin actually warms to the idea remains the biggest question mark in this saga. For now, it is speculation, not a reported deal in motion.
