Could Dylan Larkin and Nikita Kucherov actually be traded for each other?

It's a wild idea, but NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has certainly given hockey fans something to talk about.
During the November 2 episode of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Friedman revealed that someone recently suggested a potential one-for-one deal involving the Detroit Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning.
“Someone said to me the other day, from a pure hockey point of view, he could see a Larkin-for-Kucherov deal.”

Now, before anyone gets too excited, this was a hypothetical trade idea, not confirmation that negotiations are happening.

Why the timing lines up perfectly

Still, the timing makes things interesting.
Larkin requested a trade from Detroit earlier this year, and the situation recently escalated when he informed the organization he would no longer play for the team.
The Red Wings subsequently suspended him without pay.
Meanwhile, Friedman reported that Kucherov has informed Tampa Bay he won't re-sign and wants to be traded.
From Detroit's perspective, acquiring Kucherov would bring an elite offensive superstar who recorded 130 points last season.
Imagine him running the power play alongside Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider.
For Tampa Bay, Larkin would provide a proven top-line center who is under contract through 2030-31 at an $8.7 million annual cap hit.
There are complications, though.
Kucherov carries a $9.5 million cap hit and can become an unrestricted free agent in 2027.
Detroit would need confidence that he would sign an extension.
Interestingly, Tampa Bay is reportedly among the teams Larkin would accept a trade to.
The biggest obstacle? Lightning GM Julien BriseBois has publicly stated that the organization has no intention of trading Kucherov.
This remains a long shot, but with both players' futures uncertain, it's an intriguing possibility worth discussing.
