Just moments ago, the New Jersey Devils acquired forward Luke Evangelista from the Nashville Predators for a pretty hefty haul.

According to the New Jersey Devils on X, they traded two first-round picks in order to acquire the 24-year-old forward. Both of these picks will be for the 2028 draft.
This is a big trade for both sides for a plethora of reasons. Of course, Evangelista is currently on a two-year deal worth $6 million.
Furthermore, the right-shot winger is coming off the best season of his career with 56 points. This includes 12 goals and 44 assists.
The New Jersey Devils are a team that is trying to show that they do, in fact, belong in the Metropolitan Division and the Eastern Conference.
They are looking to have a bounce-back season, and Evangelista is someone who could certainly bring them some offensive depth.

What Does This Mean for the Devils?

Interestingly enough, this trade does come amidst rumors that the Devils want to trade for Quinn Hughes and have him reunite with his brothers.
Now, the Devils have two fewer first-round picks to work with if they were to go down that pursuit. Some may believe this is a misappropriation of assets.
On the other hand, Hughes may become available in free agency in a year from now, which puts the Devils in an advantageous position regardless.
Either way, this is a big trade for both sides, especially with the Predators getting those two picks to improve their future.
It is always a lot of fun when there are trades going down in the NHL, and that is absolutely no exception here.
