Blue Jackets and Penguins complete a trade just days before playoffs
Earlier this season the Columbus Blue Jackets and Pittsburgh Penguins made a trade. The trade can now be officially finalized as the conditions on the trade have been resolved.
At the NHL trade deadline this year the Columbus Blue Jackets decided to trade for Alex Nylander and a conditional 6th round pick. In the trade the Pittsburgh Penguins got Emil Bemstrom.
We have acquired F Alex Nylander and a conditional 2026 6th round draft pick from the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for F Emil Bemstrom
The condition on the draft pick involved Emil Bemstrom scoring 6 goals with his new team. If he scored the 6 goals the Blue Jackets would get a third round pick instead of a sixth. Tonight Emil Bemstrom would need to score three goals to meet that condition.
Draft Pick Condition Update:
If #LetsGoPens forward Emil Bemström plays tonight and scores 3 goals, the 2026 6th round pick sent to #CBJ in the Alex Nylander trade will upgrade to a 2026 3rd round pick.
If he does not score 3 goals, #CBJ will receive the 2026 6th round pick.
Unfortunately for the Columbus Blue Jackets, it looks as though Emil Bemstrom will not play tonight ending his season. This would mean the Blue Jackets will get a 6th rounder.
#Pens HCMS:
- Nedeljkovic starts
- Letang is available despite not skating this morning
- Bemstrom is out tonight
Despite losing out on the better draft pick the Blue Jackets are likely happy with their trade. This is due to the emergence of forward Alex Nylander as one of their top players for much of the season. The trade can now be finalized and fully analyzed by both sides and their fans.
