Red Wings put veteran Austin Czarnik on waivers to end their season

Last night the Detroit Red Wings were knocked out of the Stanley Cup playoffs due to a win by the Washington Capitals. Today after the loss the Red Wings made a peculiar roster move putting forward Austin Czarnik on waivers.
With the NHL season coming to an end roster moves are not occurring at the same rate as normal. So when the Detroit Red Wings put Austin Czarnik on waivers everyone was confused.

Now Austin Czarnik will need to clear waivers in order to be sent to the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins. The Detroit Red Wings are likely hoping he clears so that he can join the Griffins for their upcoming playoff run.
