The New York Rangers are looking to take a commanding 3-0 lead over the Carolina Hurricanes tonight. However, they will be without rookie Matt Rempe, as head coach Peter Laviolette decided to scratch him.

The Rangers have held their cards close to their chest as there has been no official announcement of the roster change. However, as the teams took warmups in Carolina tonight, Rempe was not participating in line rushes, indicating that he won't be in the lineup. Instead, he is replaced by Filip Chytil.

Rempe hasn't gotten very much ice time in any game this year so far in the playoffs. That being said, he hasn't needed to get much ice time as he's gotten under the skin of his opponents anyways.

The fact is, Matt Rempe did exactly what Peter Laviolette wanted him to do, and was actually quite effective in his very minimal ice time. The fact also is, he can't play in this series. Not against this team. His ice time last game was proof of that.

Peter Laviolette explained himself why Rempe only got 4 minutes of ice time in game two. He revealed his thought process as a coach, adjusting on the fly in an effort to win games.

Peter Laviolette explains why Matt Rempe played just 4:03 in last night's game and how he views time on ice in the playoffs

While Rempe may be a fan favorite, Laviolette may very well be making the right move tonight. We will just have to see how the game plays out.
