Two Canadian Teams Suddenly Linked to Veteran Goalie James Reimer
James Reimer is one of the NHL's most controversial players, but now two Canadian teams have been linked to the veteran goaltender after a solid 2024/25 campaign.
NHL free agency has been incredibly slow this off-season, and after some early signings, we've heard very little in the way of movement around the league in the past few months.
Now, speculation has started picking up again, and this time it involves James Reimer, who was claimed by the Sabres last season and went on to play a solid 22 games with the team.
Two Canadian teams linked to the 37-year old veteran
Through the first few months of free agency, Reimer has received very little interest on the open market, but now, he's been linked to two Canadian teams in the Edmonton Oilers and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Both teams are in need of efficient goaltender depth, with Reimer likely to play the third goaltender role on either team, but if either wanted to make a move, they likely would have done so by now.
Can Reimer keep up his 2024/25 form?
In 22 games with the Sabres last season, Reimer tallied a 2.75 GAA and a .901 save percentage, and while he's no longer an elite goaltender, he can provide great depth whether in the AHL or the NHL moving forward.
Ultimately, Reimer can still be a solid backup or depth net minder in the NHL moving forward, and if teams believe he can still get it done, expect one of these teams to bring him in, likely ahead of training camp, with his 2024/25 form showing that the 37-year old is still capable of playing at a high level.
