Female presence in hockey has improved tenfold in recent years, and after the likes of Jessica Campbell made history, now Kenzie Lalonde joins that group as she is set to make history with TSN on Tuesday night.
In the past few years, the rise of the PWHL and the female presence in hockey has been fantastic for the sport, especially for the younger generations coming through wanting to play or coach, like Jessica Campbell who made history this season.
Now, we are seeing more history, as Kenzie Lalonde will make history with TSN, becoming the first female to do play-by-play on a game when she joins Gord Miller and Matt Cullen as they call the Ottawa Senators vs. Toronto Maple Leafs game on Tuesday night.
Some out there may criticize that there's a reason she is being handed the job, but take it from Leah Hextall, the first female to call play-by-play in general, Lalonde is more than ready for the full-time role with TSN.
Kenzie has done it the right way. She has taken her time and she has put in the repetition. The only thing that needs to be said about this is that it is a deserved opportunity, whether she is male or female.
The lifelong Senators fan took to social media to announce the exciting news, sharing an incredible throwback photo that shows this moment and role is a lifetime in the making.
With an entire league of female players that's drawing plenty of attention and support from everyone, women in hockey now finally have a great place, and with people like Lalonde continuing to make history, it will hopefully continue to inspire young girls all around the world to pursue their dreams.
