The NHL's Winter Classic struggled for viewership again in 2026, and now, NHL agent Allan Walsh has given one suggestion as to how to improve that.
The Winter Classic has been a marquee event of the National Hockey League since its inception in 2008, and year after year, fans look forward to seeing hockey played at unique locations.
Unfortunately in 2025/26, the league got plenty of backlash for taking the 'Winter' Classic to Florida, an event that didn't even compare to some of the classic encounters in the snow and the freezing cold.
Allan Walsh reveals why the NHL's failed to capture viewers for the Winter Classic
Unsurprisingly, the latest event between the New York Rangers and Florida Panthers struggled to get attention, with the event struggling to get to 1 million viewers for the second straight season.
Now, NHL agent Allan Walsh has taken to social media to call out the NHL for their biggest problem and the reason why they've struggled for viewers in two straight seasons.
How about promoting it properly? Many fans around the league didn't know what day it was being played.
The solution that Walsh gave is one that fans have been begging the NHL for over the past few decades, with the league struggling to promote things properly, as many fans on social media pointed out they didn't even know what day the event way on.
Ultimately, the league is going to keep trying things their way as they have been for a long, long time, but until they start figuring out how to promote things, the growth of the league that they are hoping for simply won't happen.
