Tonight, a new report from Francois Gagnon has revealed that the Montreal Canadiens have emerged as a potential frontrunner to land Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson.
Over the last several weeks, the Dallas Stars have been actively shopping superstar winger Jason Robertson as they continue to also try and sign him to a long-term extension.
Robertson is an upcoming restricted free agent and despite their best efforts the Stars have been unable to meet his contract demands.
Earlier this week, the Stars led by GM Jim Nill reportedly had a deal in place to send Robertson to Seattle before the winger shut down talks revealing he would not sign long-term in Seattle.
Now, a new report from Francois Gagnon has uncovered that Robertson would be willing to sign with the Montreal Canadiens if a deal could be worked out between both sides.
New report confirms Jason Robertson is willing to sign in Montreal if traded to the Canadiens
In his recent report, Gagnon confirmed that Robertson would be willing to give up the favorable taxes associated with playing in Texas and would be willing to move to Canada as an American to play for the Canadiens.
From what I understand, Jason Robertson would be willing, even though he's American, even though he benefits from a tax-friendly state like Texas, and even though he plays for one of the NHL's top teams, to play in Montreal. - Francois Gagnon
It remains unclear whether the Canadiens would have interest in trading for Robertson if they are willing to offer a realistic trade package.
If Canadiens GM Kent Hughes is looking to make that final move to get his team from Conference Finals losers to Stanley Cup Champions Robertson could be that move depending on the price.
