Filip Zadina likely abandoning the NHL and heading to Europe
Filip Zadina was once considered a top prospect and slated to get picked 1st overall. Things never quite worked out as planned, and he may now head to Europe.
Things didn't go quite as planned for Zadina at the 2018 NHL entry draft, when he slid down from what many experts thought was 1st overall, down to the 6th pick when he was finally chosen by the Detroit Red Wings. It's definitely been uneventful for Zadina to say the least, as he has only picked up 41 goals and 50 assists in 262 career games. That's roughly 150 points less than the point per game player many experts pegged him to be.
The Red Wings pick Filip Zadina with the No. 6 overall pick. Dynamite winger who slid when Montreal and Arizona took centers projected to go lower.
One year ago, Zadina walked away from $4.65 million of guaranteed money the Red Wings had offered him, as he wanted to gain his freedom and test out the free agency market. Teams ultimately passed on him like they did at the 2018 draft, and he ended up signing a $1.1 million contract with the San Jose Sharks, a huge loss for him and his wallet.
Now, it appears he has had enough with NHL teams passing on him all the time, so he is taking his talents to Europe. Fans of the game in North America appear to have had enough of Zadina as well.
Zadina will end up back in Europe, or at least he should. Just simply not an NHL player.
Zadina was a -44 with the @SanJoseSharks last year...
Fans remember when Zadina said at the 2018 draft that he would make the teams that passed on him pay. It's unlikely any NHL team will be paying any price now that he appears to be leaving the NHL altogether.
