The NHL's return to the Olympics has been highly anticipated, but now Bill Daily has a disappointing update on the drama surrounding hockey at the 2026 Olympics.
The 2026 Olympic Games is set to be one of the most highly anticipated in recent memory, with the return of NHL players to the hockey tournament bringing immense hype for the event.
On the back of the success of the Four Nations Face Off, a best on best tournament between the best players in the world is going to bring plenty of new fans to the sport, while giving the die hards plenty to watch.
NHL players may be barred from the Olympics
Recently, reports emerged that the size of the rink at the Olympics is going to be even smaller than the NHL, that is if the arena gets completed at all,
with concerns around both factors heading into the Games.
In the event that things don't get completed, fans are curious about what would happen, and now, Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly has confirmed that if the arena doesn't get built, the NHL won't be sending players to the event.
Q: What is actual % chance NHLers don't go to Olympics?
Bill Daly: Depends on % you want to place on the possibility the rink doesn't get completed. If there's no rink completed, there's no NHL players going to the Olympics.
It's unclear whether or not there is a backup plan for the event in the case that this scenario plays out, and given all of the hype around it, to see no hockey played at all would be a disaster.
Ultimately, there are still a few months before the Olympic Games are set to take place, so the hope is that in that time, everything gets completed and the event goes smoothly, but until then, there will be major concerns about everything.
