A frightening moment stopped play early at the Bell Centre on Tuesday night, as NHL linesman Ryan Daisy was helped off the ice during the game between the Buffalo Sabres and Montreal Canadiens.

The scare came right after Olen Zellweger opened the scoring at the 2:16 mark of the first period.
His goal, the first of his Sabres career, took a deflection off Canadiens defenseman Adam Engstrom. Moments later, Daisy made contact with Sabres forward Jiri Kulich and stayed down.

What We Know About the Injury

According to live coverage from RDS, Daisy was unable to put weight on his left leg and exited the game with an injury. No official update on his condition had surfaced at the time of writing, so the severity remains unknown.
Daisy is one of the league's experienced officials. The Mansfield, Massachusetts native debuted in the NHL on October 13, 2016, meaning Tuesday marked the tenth anniversary of his first game.
Since then, he has worked a Stanley Cup Final in 2022 and skated in this spring's playoff series between these same two clubs.

A Heated Rematch Short a Captain

The matchup was the first meeting between the rivals since Alex Newhook's overtime winner in Game 7 sent Montreal past Buffalo in the second round and into the Eastern Conference Final.
Both teams arrived searching for consistency, with the Canadiens holding two wins in five games and the Sabres three in six.
Buffalo also played without captain Rasmus Dahlin, who did not travel to Montreal after being hurt in Monday's game against the Panthers.
Linesmen rarely draw attention, yet they work in the middle of the action every shift, skating through traffic with pucks, sticks and bodies flying in every direction. Injuries to officials are a reminder of the risks they take to keep games running smoothly.
Hockey fans everywhere will be hoping Daisy's injury turns out to be minor and that he can return to the ice soon. Stay tuned for updates on his condition as more information becomes available.
