Cale Makar will miss the Avalanche game at Dallas tonight because his wife Tracy went into labor, and the couple is expecting twins.
The Colorado Avalanche will be without Cale Makar tonight, and for the best reason possible.
The star defenseman is back in Denver with his wife, Tracy, who has gone into labor with twins, so he will sit out the game against the Dallas Stars.
The team shared the news earlier today, and a team spokesman told reporters his wife is due at any moment.
Noah Juulsen will draw into the lineup, which means Colorado will dress 12 forwards and six defensemen in Dallas.
Twins confirmed for the Makar family
Confirmation that it was twins followed shortly after, and the whole hockey world lit up with congratulations.
It is a huge moment for Makar and Tracy, and everyone around the Avalanche is pulling for them.
On the ice, this is a big loss for Colorado.
Makar has three goals and four assists in five games this season, and he is averaging about 21 and a half minutes a night.
The Avalanche also dropped a 6-3 decision to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday, so a quick return would help.
What comes next for Makar
The Avalanche and Stars run it back Wednesday night at Ball Arena in Denver.
Head coach Jared Bednar did not rule out Makar playing in that one, though it all depends on how the birth goes.
Makar is in his eighth season with Colorado.
He won the Stanley Cup and the Conn Smythe Trophy in 2022 and has two Norris Trophies, but right now the biggest win of his life is happening off the ice.
Congratulations to Cale and Tracy as they get ready to welcome two new additions.
