The Philadelphia Flyers and Utah Mammoth could reshape both rosters with one bold swap.
Under this proposal, Philadelphia acquires Caleb Desnoyers, Tij Iginla, Jack McBain, a 2027 first-round pick and a 2027 second-round pick. Utah receives Travis Konecny and Matvei Michkov.
Why Philadelphia Should Listen
The Flyers would land the two most exciting prospects in Utah's system. Desnoyers, the fourth overall pick in 2025, produced 22 goals and 78 points in 45 QMJHL games last season.
Iginla, selected sixth in 2024, tallied 41 goals and 90 points in 48 WHL games.
Both were assigned to Tucson to open the season, so Utah has little room for them right now. McBain adds size and NHL experience down the middle, and the 2027 picks give Philadelphia extra ammunition for the future.
Michkov is the price of admission, though. He is a dynamic scorer still on his entry-level contract, which runs through 2026-27.
Why Utah Pulls the Trigger
Utah made the playoffs last season and wants to go deeper. Adding Michkov and Konecny gives the Mammoth immediate, proven offense without waiting on prospects to develop.
Konecny, 29, carries an $8.75 million cap hit through 2033, so the commitment is long. Michkov's next contract will also be expensive, and Utah would need to budget for it quickly.
This deal works because each side gets what it lacks. Philadelphia receives youth, depth and draft capital to accelerate its rebuild, while Utah converts blue-chip prospects into stars who can help right now.
The Flyers lose their top offensive weapons, which is a real risk, and they would be betting that Desnoyers and Iginla develop into impact players.
Utah gives up two future building blocks, but a roster built for a deeper playoff run needs finished products.
Cost control matters as well. Desnoyers is on a three-year entry-level contract, which gives Philadelphia cheap production while it builds.
The biggest question is whether the Flyers would ever part with a player of Michkov's caliber, and the answer likely depends on how highly they value top-end upside versus a deeper pipeline.
