The Ottawa Senators have been looking to secure land for a new arena recently, and now, Steve Staios, Michael Andlauer and the franchise have announced just that.
For quite some time now, there has been speculation around the Ottawa Senators and the purchase of some land that will allow them to build a new arena in downtown Ottawa.
Now, things have taken a major step in the right direction, as the Senators have now acquired 11 acres of land in Lebreton Flats, which will allow them to build a brand new arena right in the heart of Ottawa.
A new era in the history of the Ottawa Senators
During
the announcement, Senators President and CEO Cyril Leeder addressed the new deal, beaming with pride as the deal finally came together to take the next steps on a new arena for the Ottawa Senators.
"We are pleased to reach an agreement of purchase and sale with the NCC to take the next step in this process. There are still many more hurdles to clear and we look forward to working with the NCC and other stakeholders to achieve our shared vision of creating an event centre at LeBreton Flats that can be enjoyed by our Ottawa-Gatineau community."
The Senators join the Calgary Flames as a Canadian team that's set to get a new arena in the coming years, and while Calgary's is a few steps ahead as of right now, this is still a major win for Ottawa and the Senators as they look to improve the overall facilities and expectations for the team in the city.
We will obviously learn more about the overall situation as things continue to progress, but as of right now this is huge for the Senators and the city of Ottawa, with much more exciting news to come around this entire situation in the coming years.
