Alex Ovechkin's future in hockey is up in the air, and after being asked about playing with his son one day, he completely shut down the potential idea.
By the time the 2025/26 NHL season begins, Alex Ovechkin will officially be 40-years of age, and after passing Wayne Gretzky as the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer this past season, he's got absolutely nothing left to prove.
On top of that, this will be the final season of his current deal with the Capitals, with plenty of speculation surrounding his future, with many questioning whether he'll play on, officially announce his retirement or return home to Russia and the KHL.
Alex Ovechkin Has No Intention to 'Pull a Gordie Howe' to Play With His Son
Now recently, he was asked about another possibility, with one reporter questioning whether he'd like to follow in Gordie Howe's footsteps and return to professional hockey to play with his son, Ovi Jr., who is many years away from turning professional.
"I already went out on the ice with him a year ago, and that's when my dream came true. In 15 years, I'll be 55. At 55, I'm not ready to play professional hockey."
Ovi notes that he played with Sergei (affectionately known as Ovi Jr.) in recent times as he came on the ice with him during practices and charity games, but given that he'll be 55 when Sergei approaches the age of playing professionally, there's just no chance of it happening.
