Alex Ovechkin shares heartwarming moment with Evgeni Malkin as retirement rumors continue to build

The Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins will face off one final time this season and what could be for the final time in Alex Ovechkin’s career.

With the uncertainty around Ovechkin’s future many are treating tonight’s game as a moment to celebrate his contributions to the game and the city of Washington.

Ahead of the game, a new video has been released showing Ovechkin and Penguins star Evgeni Malkin hanging out and playing mini sticks at Ovechkin’s house.

In the video, Malkin can be seen playing floor hockey with Ovechkin and his children as well as Capitals young star Aleksei Protas.

While this interaction could just be two friends catching up before the end of a long season, it could also be another hint that Ovechkin’s time in the NHL and North America is coming to an end.

Ovechkin and Malkin’s careers have mirrored one another both spending 20 years in the NHL after being selected first and second overall in the 2004 NHL Draft and bringing never before seen success to their franchises.

If this is it for Ovechkin there is not a better fitting opponent to play for his final game in Washington than Malkin, Crosby and the Penguins.

The Penguins will travel to Washington for a 3pm puck drop that could signal the end to a historic rivalry between the two franchises with Ovechkin’s impending retirement decision.
