After being drafted 22nd overall in the 2006 draft, Giroux became a full-time NHLer in the second half of the 2008-09 season. The long time Flyer has managed to put up 897 points in 993 game since joining the league, which ranks him third in career points from his draft class behind Nicklas Backstrom & Phil Kessel.
Giroux while on the wrong side of 30, is only a few years removed from a career high 102 point season. After missing the playoffs last year, the Flyers made a huge push in free agency and trades to make the team a contender this season, but unfortunately due to injuries and COVID the team has struggled, which has led to the talks about trading long time captain Claude Giroux.
Currently this season Giroux is tied for the team lead in points with 39 in 50 games, which shows this veteran still have a lot to give to a contending team.
With the trade deadline fast approaching, on Tuesday night Pierre LeBrun, on TSN insider Trading revealed what the Flyers are expecting in return for their captain.
«What the Flyers have told some teams that have called is if Giroux is ready to move, you're talking about a player that arguably could be the most impactful rental at this year's trade deadline. There's a price attached to that.
If Nick Foligno as a rental went for a first and a fourth a year ago at the deadline, then Giroux is looking at a triple asset package for sure for the Flyers. A first, a young player, and a prospect or certainly at least two assets with higher quality. It's a high price to get in on Giroux.» This is a very high price to pay for a potential rental player, but he is rumoured to be going to either Colorado or Minnesota and Colorado definitely has the picks and prospects to spare!
