PK Subban is far from the most popular player in the league, he's polarizing on a good day and there are few teams who have at least some negative history with the defender. PK's history of dirty plays might lead a couple teams to shy away from adding the right handed defenseman, but at the same time that could be the exact reason other's look to add the dman.
This week the New Jersey Devil's General Manager, Tom Fitzgerald sat down with Pierre LeBrun and shared the following information with the Insider.
"I sat down with P.K. yesterday and we talked about uncertainty and the deadline and that we're not at a spot where we're looking to extend him at this point."
With the New Jersey Devils clearly not in contender status it seems as though moving away from Subban is the right decision at this time. PK probably feels the same, as his career winds down he's appeared in a Stanley Cup Finals, but never captured that elusive championship.
"I sat in the chair across from the GM during my playing career. And been told you're being moved or there's the potential for being moved. Change is hard as a player. I've done it. It is hard."
"It is unnerving, I understand that."
"He's done a lot for community here and the organization. But I told him, On the last day, somebody may lose a right-shot D and may call me and if the move makes sense for the New Jersey Devils and makes sense for you to potentially have a chance to win, I have to do what's best for the organization.'"
It sounds as though Tom Fitzgerald has his trade deadline strategy figured out when it comes to PK Subban, but it's going to come down to see if another team has enough interest in the dman.
