The NHL for the most part had done a good job handling the leagues COVID situation, but it's starting to seem more and more like that was a fluke and not a stroke of genius. The Carolina Hurricanes are currently going through a COVID outbreak after a trip to Vancouver, but with no positive tests in the last 24 hours it appears tonight's Hurricanes versus Red Wings game will go on as scheduled.
The only problem?
Because of the amount of players on the COVID protocol and the lack or taxi squad this season the Hurricanes are going to be forced to play tonight's game without a full lineup.
According to Pierre LeBrun the Hurricanes plan on playing tonight with 10 forwards and 6 defensemen, 2 short of the allowed amount.
Now this on its own might not be a huge issue, but what happens if a player suffers an injury during the game? Or as we saw the other night im Vancouver, what happens if a positive test comes back during the game and a player needs to be pulled from the game?
The NHL needs to act now and bring back the Taxi Squad program for the safety of the players and integrity of the game.
