Frank Servalli is reporting the following news on a possible NHL shutdown that could happen as early as tomorrow.
Sources say there has been conversation today about a possible league-wide shutdown effective tomorrow. The situation remains very fluid. No decision yet.
Now just 7 games left before Christmas break.
44 games have been postponed this season, 39 in last 7 days.
There are a few options on the table.
One is to suspend play through the holiday break (Dec. 24-26) and return on Dec. 27.
Another is to go through New Year's Eve and return with the Winter Classic on Jan. 1.
Lots of opinion for/against both. Teams with few cases want to play
With some guys back in as soon as 5 or 6 days (including symptomatic players, #Canucks
Luke Schenn is latest example) - there is the thought that a lengthy pause is not necessary. That just getting through holidays may help.
The other belief, and the prevailing one to this point, is why pause? There is no guarantee the league will be in a better place in a week. Try to grind through as many games as possible - that many fewer games to make up later.
All of that said to say: Stay tuned. 🤷🏼♂️
