The Ottawa Senators have been making better moves the past few seasons after crippling the team with some terrible ones over the years. However, the team may want to be careful with how it negotiates with its young players after reports come out of a pitiful offer made to one of them.
The Gap Widens
Pinto, who the Sens have said they see as a big part of their future, completed his entry-level contract and needs a new deal. According to Sportsnet Insider Elliotte Friedman, he was made an offer that PInto was not happy with at all.
"The gulf between the Ottawa Senators and restricted free agent Shane Pinto widened this week. According to several sources, the player was disappointed with a recent offer in the one-year, $1M range."

The Player's Ask
According to Friedman, Pinto and his agent were hoping for something in the $2.5 million range, well above the offered amount. It also seems terrible in the wake of the eight-year $64.4 million contract awarded to Jake Sanderson, who has played just 77 NHL games.
Pinto was drafted 32nd overall, in 2019. He has played a total of 99 regular season games so far, with 21 goals and 43 points.
