REPORT: Surprising Montreal Canadiens prospect on pace to set RECORD

Published November 26, 2022 at 7:31 PM

After making it all the way to the Stanley Cup finals in 2021, the Montreal Canadiens finished last season in dead last and won the draft lottery to select first overall.

Instead of going with the projected first overall selection Shane Wright, they instead opted to go with the Slovakian power forward Juraj Slafkovsky.

But this is not the prospect we are talking about here. The Canadiens have quite the depth pool of prospects right now and some of them are lightning it up in their leagues, like Owen Beck who has 26 points in 19 OHL games, Riley Kidney who has 36 points in 22 QMJHL games, Sean Farrell who has 12 points in 8 Havard games, and this is just a few of them.

But the player who is currently setting a record hasn't even been named yet. In this past draft, the Montreal Canadiens drafted in the second round young Lane Hutson who is currently playing for Boston University.

This first year player is currently on the second pair for BU and has put up 6 goals and 14 points in 12 games. This production rate has not been accomplished by a defenceman in the last 25 years.

Yeah... Lane Hutson is currently on pace for the best Draft +1 NCAA point-per-game pace of the last 25 years.

Already matched Adam Fox and eclipsed Quinn Hughes for goals as a freshman.

It's November. He's playing 2nd pair/2nd PP.

This kid is special.

The Montreal Canadiens have been one of the worst drafting teams for over a decade, it looks like they've finally figured out how to draft some talent!
