Connor Hellebuyck wants out of Winnipeg, but the trade market for the former Hart and Vezina winner is proving far trickier than expected. Some interested teams are now asking a question that goes beyond price.

On The Chris Johnston Show, the insider passed along what scouts are telling him.
There's now a concern even from teams that might trade for him like what version of him are you getting?
Johnston has also described Hellebuyck as open to many places, which makes the lingering doubt even more notable.

Why Buyers Are Hesitating

The hesitation is easy to understand. Hellebuyck is 33, and last season he went 23-23-11 with a 2.86 goals-against average and an .895 save percentage. Those numbers sit far from the elite form that earned him Hart and Vezina hardware, and the Jets missed the playoffs.
The contract adds another layer. His $8.5 million cap hit runs through 2030-31, meaning a buyer would be tied to him until he is 38. Paying that price for a goalie who might not return to his peak is a risk many general managers will weigh carefully.
Interest has not disappeared. Elliotte Friedman reported that Buffalo came closest to a deal, while Anaheim and Utah were among the clubs that showed curiosity. Still, nobody has pulled the trigger. That interest could matter if the Jets ever lower their demands.

What It Means for Winnipeg

The Jets find themselves in an awkward spot. Hellebuyck holds a full no-movement clause through next July, and Winnipeg has not seen an offer that excites the front office.
Winnipeg reportedly still wants immediate help in return, including one or two second-line caliber players plus young assets. That is a lot to ask when rivals are unsure of the goalie's current level.
If evaluators keep debating how much of his old game is left, offers may stay low and the standoff could drag on. For a goalie who once looked untouchable, that is a stunning shift in how the league sees him.
