Shane Wright was the projected first overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, but on draft night, he ended up slipping to the Seattle Kraken with the 4th overall selection.

He started the year off with the Kraken, but after getting very little playing time, and often being a healthy scratch, he was sent to the American Hockey League for 5 games where he scored 4 goals.

After his stint in the AHL, he was recalled to the Kraken for a game, where he got some revenge on the Montreal Canadiens, scoring his first ever career NHL goal. He was then sent to the World Juniors to play for Team Canada, where he helped his team win a Gold Medal.

After the tournament he was sent back to the Ontario Hockey League, where he was traded to the Windsor Spitfires and recorded 15 goals and 37 points in 20 games. His team though was swept by the Kitchener Rangers in the first round of the playoffs, where Wright only scored 1 goal and 3 points in the 4 games.

It has now been announced that Wright has been recalled back up to the American Hockey League to play with the Coachella Valley Firebirds, who are currently sitting second in the Pacific Division.

The #Kraken have assigned forward Shane Wright to the Coachella Valley Firebirds (AHL).

Wright, 19, was acquired by the Windsor Spitfires (OHL) earlier this year, where he had 15 goals, 37 points through 20 games played in the regular season.

The Spitfires were the first seed in their conference, but got swept by the Kitchener Rangers in the first round, as Wright registered one goal, three points in four games.
