When the Seattle Kraken finished 30th last season, they made it a mission to be better this season, and thus far they've been much better. They brought in some great offensive forwards this offseason and so far it's helped them to a 2-3-2 record, which is below .500 but it's better than last year.
At the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, the Kraken had the 4th selection, and chose to go with projected 1st overall pick Shane Wright.
Wright was being projected as a Patrice Bergeron style player who had a great two way game and could put up some great offensive numbers as well, thought to be one of the most NHL ready players in the draft, but that might not be the case.
NHL players on entry level contacts are given 9 game tryouts before they can be sent back to the minors without burning a year off their deal, and it looks like that might be what is happening with Wright. He has gotten into 5 games for the Kraken, has registered 1 point, but the most ice time he has ever played in a game is 8:42. The lowest was his last game where he only got 5:51 of ice time against the Chicago Blackhawks.
Wright has not been properly utilized by the Kraken thus far, and if they only intend on playing him limited minutes, they may as well send him back to the minors.
