The start of the NHL season for most teams is on Tuesday October 11th, but for two teams, their seasons have already started.
The San Jose Sharks and Nashville Predators played their first game yesterday in Prague, Czechia, which the Predators beat the Sharks in a dominating 4-1 win.
Despite this game being the first regular season game of the year, the National Hockey League did not demand that these teams be below the salary cap, in other words, they were not salary cap compliant.
Cap Friendly explains the reasoning:
The #SJSharks and #Preds do NOT have to be cap compliant today, despite today and tomorrows games being regular season games.
However, they do have to build their cap compliant roster for Tuesday using only the players who travelled to Europe.
