We are currently watching quite possibly the most skilled era of hockey in history, and two players that are atop of that list of skill right now are the Edmonton Oilers Connor McDavid, and the Toronto Maple Leafs Auston Matthews.
Since McDavid arrived in the NHL, all he has done is produce points. He has had 5 100+ point seasons since entering the league, and that's including a season that was shortened to 56 games due to COVID. Through 487 career games, he currently has 697 points.
The Ontario native, signed an 8 year deal with the Oilers for what was at the time the largest contract in the NHL, making him $12,500,000 AAV, thus now being passed by Nathan MacKinnon, but McDavid is still by far the best player in the league.
According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman on his 32 thoughts podcast, the Oilers captain may be of some interest to the Toronto Maple Leafs:
«The Leafs will factor Connor McDavid into their long term cap plans.»
«Oilers should be wary of the Leafs, especially in the cap situation there currently in.»
«Leafs are going to go all out in pursuing Connor McDavid.»
Can you imagine the leagues best playmaker and the leagues current best goalscorer playing on the same team, nevermind the same line? Yikes.
