This past week, former NHL bench boss Mike Babcock announced that he was resigning at thee head coach at the University of Saskatchewan. This came as a surprise as he agreed to a 2 year role with the club as a volunteer and after one season he resigned from it.
Not long after, it seems like Mike Babcock is making an even bigger more in his coaching career. According to The Score, Mike Babcock might be ending his career as a hockey coach:
This is a statement from Mike Babcock:
No, that's sure not the plan. My wife and I have discussed this a ton, obviously. ... We always said we were going to retire at 60, and I'm 59. Basically, that's what it is.
If things change, I guess they change, but surely that's not our plan. Believe me, we've talked to lots of people about opportunities and enjoyed those conversations. In the end, we feel this is best for us and best for our family, so that's what we're doing.
If this is indeed the end of Babcock as a bench boss, he will retire after coaching 17 NHL seasons. He was the head coach for the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs. His career record is 700-418-19-164 and he won the Stanley Cup in 2007-08 with the Detroit Red Wings.
