REPORT: Maple Leafs tried to acquire former Top-12 pick this offseason but offered too little
It was a disappointing finish to last season for the Maple Leafs, after having two changes to eliminate the Tampa Bay Lightning in round one, but as per usual, they ended up losing in the first round.
This offseason the Maple Leafs did not have much cap space to go out shopping but did manage to bring in a few depth pieces to bolster their bottom 6, along with bringing in 2 new goaltenders, one of which has started the season on fire.
It's now been reported that the Maple Leafs were going after a former first round pick who was selected 12th overall back in 2013, but they weren't willing to pay as much as he got from another team in Free Agency.
The player we speak of is Max Domi. If the Maple Leafs signed Domi, fans would have been thrilled. His father Tie was a long time Maple Leaf and was a definite fan favourite, and while his son Max doesn't posses the same fighting skill that he dad did, he definitely isn't afraid to drop the gloves and also brings quite a bit of skill that his father did not have.
Max has been a little inconsistent throughout his career, but he did have a 28 goal 72 point season, not too long ago, and has started off this year fairly well with 4 goals and 7 points in 8 games.

Domi ended up signing a one year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks, but Maple Leafs fans would have definitely loved to see another Domi in a Leafs uniform.
