The Toronto Maple Leafs acquired goaltender Matt Murray from the Ottawa Senators this offseason to be the teams new starting goalie, but after only 1 game, Murray injured himself and backup goaltender Ilya Samsonov has taken over the starting role and has ran with it.
Through his first 6 games, Samsonov is 4-2-0 with a .920 SV% and 2.35 GAA which is driving all Washington Capitals fans crazy after his poor performance these last few years which led them to letting him walk for nothing in Free Agency.
The Maple Leafs have not had the start to the season they wanted, and they have now lost back to back games and after last nights loss, Sheldon Keefe had this to say:
Samsonov, who has been playing the majority of the Maple Leafs games doesn't seem to agree with Keefe, and had this to say:
We know the Maple Leafs have a hard time when it comes to the playoffs, but the regular season is normally their time to shine. We've seen them absolutely dominate through the regular season in previous years, but something seems to be off with their star players. Is getting them going all it's going to take to get this team firing on all cylinders or is there something else wrong?
