Last night when the Philadelphia Flyers went to Toronto to take on the Maple Leafs, in what would eventually end in a 5-2 win for the Leafs, the score wasn't what everyone has been talking about today. Sadly, nor is it about the fact that John Tavares scored a hat-trick and one of the most beautiful goals in his entire career.
What everyone is talking about is the fact that late in the game Auston Matthews engaged in a pushing match with Travis Konecny and when push came to shove and Konecny was ready to fight, Matthews just stood there watching and smiling as his team came in to defend him.
Then to make matters worse, after the fights had ended, Konecny and Matthews would again start pushing and shoving as once again Matthews just watched as his team did it all over again.
This is what a former NHL enforcer had to say:
After the game Flyers coach John Tortorella was asked about the situation with Matthews in which he responded:
«What do you want me to say? It's classless, and he's got no respect for the game. He'd probably ask for a million dollars to block a single shot. Sitting there smiling and drinking BioSteel? There's no steel in Matthews. Clown show.»
