It's been an interesting start to his National Hockey League career for Shane Wright who was projected to be the first overall pick but ended up falling to fourth to the Kraken.
Wright has now played in 5 of the Kraken's 10 games this season, he has been a healthy scratch for the last 3 games and only averaged 6:51 of time on ice when he actually gets in the lineup.
He has 1 point on the season so far and is a +2 in plus/minus. So many have been criticizing the way that the Kraken are handling Shane Wright, he is the top prospect on the team and they are playing him below average fourth line minutes and not giving him the chance to really succeed.
While many have been quick to point out that this is just the chance for him to get his feet wet in the NHL and then head back to juniors after the 9 game 'try-out,' that apparently is not what the Kraken have in mind at all.
According to this NHL insider, the General Manager wants to keep Wright with the team all season, which has now thrown everyone into a spiral because what is the point if he isn't getting played?
A young player needs ice time to develop so even going back to junior where he will dominate is better than not getting ice time in Seattle.
There is definitely something to say that practices in the NHL are better than what he will be doing back in the OHL, but a practice can only take you so far, sooner or later you need to get in the game.
