John Klingberg was the best defenceman heading into the 2022 NHL Free Agency, but after weeks of being available, teams were not interested in his asking price so he ended up finding new representation and signing a one year deal with an AAV of $7,000,000 with the Anaheim Ducks.
So far this season, nothing has went right for Anaheim. They are second last in the league with an 8-20-3 record and it doesn't look like things are going to get better anytime soon.
Klingberg was hoping to sign in Anaheim, play some big minutes, put up some big numbers and find himself on a contender come the trade deadline, but the current issue is he isn't putting up big numbers. This season he only has 3 goals and 10 points in 24 games.
Despite his season stats, teams do know what Klingberg is capable of and NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman has a pretty good idea of where he thinks he will go:
«This is just my prediction, John Klingberg finishes the year in Edmonton. I could be wrong. That's my prediction».
While I do think that Klingberg would do great in Edmonton, personally I do not see him as an upgrade to Tyson Barrie who plays the same role. Personally I think some other team will be more likely to bring in Klingberg.
