We've seen quite a few situations this year where young players are not getting the time us fans believe they deserve or even what the players feel they deserve, and this is one of those cases.
VIlle Heinola was drafted by the Winnipeg Jets back in 2019 20th overall and after making the team to start the 2019-20 season, scoring 5 points in his first 8 games, he was sent to the AHL.
In the 2020-21 & 2021-22 season he got into a combined 17 NHL games and has spent the majority of his time in the AHL or even in the SM-Liigga league.
Heinola believes he is ready for the NHL but has not been getting the opportunity to play with the Jets.
I think anyone who has seen him play in hockey knows that he has reached a point where he has rendered a regular NHL player useless.
Ville does not deserve a guaranteed spot in the lineup. He deserves a chance to play a series of games to show that he can do it.
At some point, you're going to have to make that decision because the asset (Heinola) is going to stagnate and start going backwards. That's what's going to happen. I don't think he's backing down yet, but there's definitely frustration building, and that's never a good sign.
