The regular season is just over a week away and teams are starting to trip their large roster sizes from training camp.
Normally the players that get cut from camp are sent to their American Hockey League affiliates if they clear the wire, but during this time other teams have a chance to claim these players. Or if a player is junior eligible he gets sent straight to their junior team without having to go through any waivers.
Today teams started to make cuts and the following players were placed on waivers, including a former 22 goal scorer:
Panik found some chemistry with the Blackhawks a few years ago and had a very good offensive season, but has failed to find that chemistry since.
Brad Hunt who is quite the minor league offensive defenceman, just can't seem to translate his offensive game to the NHL.
Teammate Spencer Smallman was also cut and they become the 2nd and 3rd players cut from the Avalanche roster after cutting former 3rd overall pick Alex Galchenyuk.
