REPORT: Family filing lawsuit against their sons former team after his sudden death
Sending your child to a hockey camp as a parent is usually the last thing you expect to end in tragedy. However, for Greg and Susan, parents of Ben Teague, a member of the Oakville Rangers, this became a nightmare when their son never returned home after attending a pre-season camp in September 2019.
According to TSN's Rick Westhead, the Teague family has filed a 1 million dollar lawsuit against the Rangers and other parties, citing negligence and wrongful death.
Greg and Susan Teague have filed a $1M negligence and wrongful death lawsuit against the Oakville Rangers Hockey Club and others.
Our @CTVW5 story on their search for answers about how their 17-year-old son Benjamin died at a team event in 2019.https://t.co/sV6SHCExRv— Rick Westhead (@rwesthead) March 19, 2023
The suit stems from a phone call the Teagues received, informing them that their 17-year-old son had been hospitalized for drinking, and later passed away.
It is my hope that the Teague family finds the answers they seek and that those responsible are held accountable for their actions. As parents, they should not be left without closure after such a tragedy. It is crucial for the hockey community to address and prevent incidents like this from happening again. The culture of silence must come to an end, and accountability must be enforced to ensure the safety and well-being of young athletes.
