In the 2016-17 season, the Colorado Avalanche had a historically bad season which saw them finish last. They had the best odds at winning the first overall pick, but unfortunately fell all the way to 4th.

Three teams passed over this great defenceman and the Colorado Avalanche were more than happy to select Cale Makar from the AJHL with their 4th overall pick.

When he was selected, even Nathan MacKinnon had no idea what they were getting in this player due to the league he was playing in.

Now a few seasons later, the Colorado Avalanche are Stanley Cup champions and this nobody from the AJHL is setting records already at the age of 24.

Cale Makar has already become one of three defenceman to win the Norris, Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe Trophy in the same season, and now he is about to accomplish something that no defenceman has ever done before.

Cale Makar needs two points in his next seven games or less to be the first and only defenseman in NHL history to reach 200 career points before playing 200 career games.
