The Philadelphia Flyers are one of the teams in the National Hockey League with the best histories. The Broadstreet Bullies dominated the league physically for years and possessed some of the best players in the NHL.
Fast-forward to these past few seasons and they have not been the team that the Flyers fans are hoping to see on the ice.
Back to back season with missing the playoffs caused for a shake up in management, which saw Chuck Fletcher get fired after the trade deadline, and Daniel Briere a former Flyers player get named as the Interim-General Manager.
In last years draft, the Flyers chose fifth overall, and with that selection that chose Cutter Gauthier. Gauthier played this past season at Boston College, where is scored 16 goals and 21 assists in 32 games.
Flyers fans were hoping to see Gauthier put on a Flyers jersey for next season, and give some hope to the lineup that a good future is coming for the franchise, but it looks like theyll have to wait.
After the season was over, Briere spoke with Gauthier and this was what was said of the conversation:
we told them about our vision and what we see moving forward, and he had a discussion with his advisor and family, and they decided that it was better for him to go back for another year, which I really don't have a problem with.
I think it's going to give him the chance to hopefully be even more dominant than he was this year. Another year at World Juniors I'm really excited about. We're going to get a bigger, better, faster, more mature, Cutter Gauthier the following year. So, I'm really excited about his development this year.
