At this point in time, we can safely say Phil Kessel got the last laugh. Kessel lifted the Stanley Cup for the third time in his career last night as the Vegas Golden Knights downed the Florida Panthers in the final. Kessel took a shot at members of the Toronto media in the process.
After a trade with the Boston Bruins, Kessel, who was a 5th overall draft pick, spent six seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. It was believed at the time that he was the guy to pull the team out of the gutter and back to competing. It didn't pan out, and Kessel was eventually traded to Pittsburgh, where he would win his first two Cups. Kessel apparently hasn't forgotten how things went down in Toronto.
There are some on social media trying to downplay Kessel's involvement in the Golden Knights first ever Cup win. After signing a one-year deal with Vegas last summer, Kessel played all 82 games in the regular season. He also suited up for four games in the playoffs, although he did not play in the Finals. There are players with their name on the Cup that did far less for their team.
