Rumours of Jack Campbell being given another shot with the Oilers have circulated since the Oilers started winning games again. The Oilers, despite their recent success, are still in need of a good tandem option in net, and Mark Spector revealed that they do not believe that Campbell is the solution, given his performance in the AHL.
Campbell has posted a 3.22 goals against average and .894 save percentage during his 9 games in the AHL, numbers that would be troubling if he was in the NHL. As Spector notes, Campbell's performance is keeping him in the Minors.
In a season like the current one, that cap space could be vitally used for a backup goaltender or even another defenseman, however, as it currently stands, the Oilers don't have many options to make space. For some reason, not many teams are biting on a $5 million AHL goaltender, either.
