Corey Perry could be about to play in his third consecutive stanley cup finals, unfortunately for him, he lost the last two to the Tampa Bay Lightning, so this year he decided to join them.

But Perry could have stayed with the Montreal Canadiens, and only left because of a contract dispute about a second year added to his deal.
Martin Leclerc while on the TEllement Hockey Podcast, made a shocking statement about former Montreal Canadien, Corey Perry. Apparently, the Montreal Canadiens had a plan to make Perry the next team captain.
We knew (Shea) Weber was leaving and we (coaches) were saying, 'Give him a two- or three-year contract, keep him to transition and help the young guys grow. He's a valuable asset." In the end, Marc Bergevin wasn't inclined to go for multiple seasons.

I learned a few days ago that at the Habs, there were discussions. The coaches wanted management to put him under contract for a few seasons and give him the captain's C.

Perry is a veteran of 1176 regular season games, he is a former 50 goal scorer, has an Olympic Gold Medal playing for team Canada and is a Stanley Cup Champion. He plays the game hard, scores goals and leads by example. Perry would have been the perfect transition captain for the Habs, but because Bergevin refused that second year, we saw what the Habs looked like this year, a leaderless team.
Poor move Bergevin.
