Besides the size of his bean-pole legs, Wayne Simmonds have always been one of the toughest players in the NHL. He may not look like a heavy weight fighter, but the guy has never backed down from a fight and used to be one of the best power forwards in the game, back in his days with the Philadelphia Flyers and LA Kings.
Essentially Wayne Simmonds used to be exactly what Tom Wilson is to the Washington Capitals today. A top line player capable of 20+ goals, 50+ points and 100+ PIM's to keep the aggressors off the backs of the teams stars.
Since he became a Toronto Maple Leaf, his role has diminished into a fourth line player who provides some depth scoring and now has moved into a purely 'tough guy' role, which is actually fitting as it's something the Leafs have been desperate for, for years.
Unfortunately tonight, someone was definitely tougher as we see Ross Johnston get a quick punch in which drops Simmonds!
