Auston Matthews still hasn't signed an extension in Toronto. Is it time for the Leafs to start pursuing other options with their franchise star?
Matthews Revitalizes the Coyotes
Auston Matthews is certainly the most accomplished hockey player from the state of Arizona, and he is one of the few true assets that has come from the existence of the Coyotes.
Drafted first overall in 2016, Matthews has gone on to be the best even-strength goal-scorer since entering the league, and has a Hart trophy under his belt.
Any trade for Matthews will be a big one, and his hometown Coyotes are a prime target. They have loads of young assets, and are definitely one of matthews' preferred destinations.
This mock trade would send the Leafs 2022 3rd overall pick Logan Cooley, whose analytics suggest he'll be a gamebreaking star, stud young defenseman Janis Jerome Moser, former fifth overall pick Barrett Hayton, and two first round picks.

With Matthews highly unlikely to sign long-term in Toronto, is it time for GM Brad Treliving to move on? This type of package would have to make him think!
